About Helene Hovanec

Helene Hovanec is a former NYC and NJ elementary school teacher, who, 30 years ago, turned her passion into a career and embarked on a mission to become the world's preeminent children's puzzle creator. During that time Ms. Hovanec has authored 66 books, most of which are puzzle books for kids between the ages of three and 12. Her titles have sold over 2 million copies worldwide.

Ms. Hovanec has created puzzles and games for other media as well, including online, lectures, newspapers and digital gaming formats. In fact, she was the head writer on the Who Wants To Be a Millionaire™ digital kids edition.

Hovanec is also a major player in the puzzle world for grown-ups. With Will Shortz, crossword editor of The New York Times, she:

* Helped reinstate the annual conventions for The National Puzzlers' League
* Helped form The World Puzzle Federation
* Is the coordinator for the annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament

Ms. Hovanec holds a BA from Cornell University and a master's in early childhood education from Hunter College.
